Embarking on a Scenic Adventure

If you're like us, nothing beats the thrill of cruising through Northern Idaho and Montana, soaking in the majestic landscapes, and stopping by some of the region's best-kept secrets. In our latest podcast episode, we embarked on a memorable road trip, lovingly dubbed our "booze cruise," exploring hidden gems, indulging in local flavors, and discovering breathtaking natural wonders. Here we will capture the highlights of our journey, sprinkled with personal anecdotes, tips, and must-visit spots to make your own trip unforgettable.
Starting Point: The View Cafe

We recommend kicking off your adventure at The View Cafe, a charming little spot we've been fortunate to work at that has some fantastic huckleberry mimosas! We definitely think it is the perfect place to start your journey!
Fuel Up at Cabinet Mountain Bar and Grill

We recommend stopping at Cabinet Mountain Bar and Grill as you cruise toward Clark Fork. It is located near our favorite spot, Lightning Creek. The most affordable gas of the trip was right across the street, making it a win-win for any traveler.
A Wilderness Lunch at Halfway House Bar & Grill
A hidden gem in the middle of the wilderness, the Halfway House Bar & Grill is ideal for a relaxing lunch break surrounded by nature.
Camping at Dorr Skeels Campground
Situated on Bull Lake, this campground offers a rustic experience with vault toilets, bear boxes, and fire rings. Perfect for those looking to immerse themselves in nature but still desire an established campground.
Finding Tranquility at Camp Creek

As we ventured further, we discovered Camp Creek—a serene spot where the sound of the flowing water offered a fun yet peaceful retreat for us and the pups. We spent some time here playing in the creek, soaking in the tranquility and enjoying the moment. It's a great place to stop and stretch your legs.
Exploring Kootenai Falls and Suspension Bridge

If you're up for a short detour, Kootenai Falls and Suspension Bridge are must-see attractions. This hidden gem offers a breathtaking view of the falls and a thrilling walk across the suspension bridge. Perfect for a quick hike and some stunning photos.
Discovering Small-Town Charm at Main Street Perk and Pub

One of the highlights of our trip was stumbling upon Main Street Perk and Pub, a quaint little coffee house/bar/restaurant/tanning salon that perfectly encapsulates small-town charm.
A Cozy Stay at Kootenai River Campground
Whether you prefer primitive camping or a cozy cabin, this campground has you covered. With a camp store and shower facilities, it's a great base camp for anyone exploring the surrounding areas more comfortably.
Relax and Dine at BEST WESTERN Plus Kootenai River Inn Casino & Spa
We are told the Kootenai River Inn boasts the best food on your booze cruise. This Bonners Ferry location is a must-stop. Enjoy a delicious meal with a side of entertainment.
Sipping Brews at Laughing Dog Brewery
For us, no trip is complete without a visit to a local brewery. Laughing Dog Brewery in Sandpoint quickly became one of our favorite spots. With a wide selection of craft beers and a laid-back vibe, it was the perfect place to unwind after a day of exploring. We highly recommend trying their Huckleberry Cider—it's our favorite!
